What We Do

Our Commitment

The Detroit Industrial Well facility is committed to operating with environmental practices and policies that are good for our customers, local businesses and residents. Our local team ensures that the long-term management of the facility is safe and responsible.

Initiatives

The Detroit Industrial Well facility is operated in a manner designed to protect public health and the environment. We regularly monitor and report our activities to the EPA and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE), and we strive to meet or exceed all state and federal regulations. All waste is disposed of through two on-site injection wells that reach more than 4,500 feet below the surface. There are many environmental protection systems at the Detroit Industrial Well facility.

The Detroit Industrial Well team takes multiple steps to protect the environment. All waste is profiled, screened and sampled multiple times before safe disposal.

Protection of all water sources is a priority at the Detroit Industrial Well facility. Per federal regulations, the facility is designed with concrete and steel casings to reinforce the underground injection wells. The Detroit Industrial Well facility also assesses groundwater with 5 individual groundwater monitoring wells. Each well is sampled and analyzed quarterly to verify the groundwater is protected.

The Detroit Industrial Well facility takes several steps to remain compliant with our air permit and control the potential for off-site odor. All material receiving areas and treatment processes are conducted inside a closed facility, and all storage and processing tanks have sealed lids.
